What medicines do you use?

The drug we use is derived from purified proteins produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium. When properly administrated by a professionally trained Practitioner, these treatments reduce the activity of the muscles that cause frown lines and wrinkles to form over time. During treatment very small doses are injected into targeted muscles, causing them to relax and smooth out the skin.

Aren’t these medicines a toxin to the body?

Botulinum toxin is a neurotoxin produced by the bacteria called Clostridium botulinum, which causes the form of food poisoning we know as botulism. Botulism toxins bind to nerve endings and prevent muscles from contracting, from the nerve.

What will happen during treatment?

Your Practitioner will administer several tiny injections directly into the muscles that cause wrinkles. Your practitioner determines where to administer the injections by examining your ability to move certain muscles on your face. The location, size, and the use of the muscles that create wrinkles vary markedly among individuals.

How long does the treatment take?

The treatment can usually be done in about 10 – 15 minutes. Following a thorough assessment and no recovery time is needed. The only visible signs that you’ve had anything done are some potential redness or minor bruising around the injection points. However, this is very minor and many people have a wrinkle relaxing treatment in their lunchtime and return to work in the afternoon.

How does it work?

Lines on your face form over time, as the result of repeated muscle activity over many years. Our treatment relaxes the target area resulting in reduced muscle activity creating a smoother more youthful look.

How long will it take to work?

While some people report an almost instant improvement, there should be a noticeable improvement to the lines on your face within a few days. Most people notice some effect within the first few days after being injected. Full improvement can take up to 2 weeks following treatment.

How long will it last?

Results typically last for 3 to 6 months but vary from person to person. Wrinkle relaxing treatments are not a cure. Should you stop having treatments, the lines on your face will gradually return to their state before treatment. Typically results last 3 to 6 months but depends upon the severity of the area being treated and lifestyle.

Is it painful?

For most people, discomfort is usually minimal and brief. Most patients compare the sensation to a pinprick. No anaesthetic is required. Extremely fine needles are used therefore most people report only a quick pinprick sensation.

Are there any side effects?

As with all prescription medicines treatment can cause some side effects. Most of these are associated with infections, bruising, slight swelling or redness. Other side effects can be temporary eye droop or a headache. Choosing an experienced injector will minimise but not eliminate the risk of side effects.

Will I look unnatural after treatment?

One of the reasons wrinkle relaxing treatment, is so popular is the subtle improvement it makes to your appearance. Friends may comment that you look more relaxed, but treatment will not radically alter your appearance; it will simply reduce muscle activity. You will still be able to frown or smile as you used to in a more limited way
